DONNA DEL PAESE DI BAGNUOLI, DELLA CONTEA DI MOLISSE [Woman from the village of Bagnuoli, in the region of Molise]
1830. Original hand-coloured Italian lithograph. Dimensions: Mount W 32.7 x L 38.4 Print W 17.3 cm x L 23 cm. Michela De Vito, herself the daughter of the artist Camillo De Vito, was a Neapolitan artist working during the first half of the nineteenth century, known for her colourful yet softly rendered watercolour depictions of folk life and costume. These plates, whilst unattributed, pay careful homage to her work both in style and subject-matter, and provide glimpses of local colour from the northerly regions of Italy from around the same time.
